Aquaponics in the Wetlab
Grant Amount: $5,945.23
Date In Effect: 2025
Schools Impacted: Jr. Sr. High School
The aquaponic project is a sustainable agricultural system that combines aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil) in a symbiotic environment. Fish waste provides essential nutrients for plants, while plants naturally filter and purify the water, which is then recirculated back to the fish tanks. This closed-loop system maximizes resource efficiency, minimizes water usage, and eliminates the need for synthetic fertilizers. Ideal for urban and rural settings, the project promotes sustainable food production and environmental conservation. The Aquaponics project in the Wetlab provides hands-on learning opportunities while fostering innovation, sustainability, and cross-disciplinary education.
